All our random miracles
Other people’s miracles pass us on the street
all the ever loving day
Their coincidental reunions
Their incredible strokes of fate
The simple fact of their being
Defies the believing
The very air that they’re breathing
Owes thanks to various elements’ lucky coupling
Not to mention the fluke combination of their ribonucleic DNA
Miracles stroll by us nonchalantly
just going about their way
Those two dreamt about one another before meeting
Them, over there, they had previously scribbled each others’ names
She fell asleep each night dreaming
That there would eventually come a day
And then that day came
We wake to be miraculous ourselves every time we wake
That there even is an ‘us’ to be woken
Is a miracle we can’t help but try to ignore away
If we took stock of the strange fact of our own existence
If we applied all of our extravagant genius
To attempt to properly think about thanking our lucky stars
For setting up the universe in this intricately perfect way.
That is all that we would do with all of our tragically imperfect remaining days.
